Augmented vs Virtual is this a joke or something more?
We need to back up & take a close look at the origins of AR/VR. Then we’ll look at how the metaverse is an extension of the same albeit with a Social Media Twist.
I always thought of this as, why does the screen have to limit the potential of computing. This takes a different route to approach the eventual solution of ubiquitous computing.
Augmented Reality is where the digital world is overlayed atop the real world.
Virtual Reality is where we are solely looking at the virtual world.
Familiar examples are: Pokemon Go, Occulus Rift, Google glass.
At it’s simplest think of augmented reality as a way to add information to the real world. Imagine if you could have an info card atop everyone’s head to tell you info about them. Versus a complete simulation where you can see the statue of liberty.
So simply you have lenses to focus, a screen & a directional sensor (accelerometer).
